Midwest 49ers Champions at St Mary's Pre-season Showdown!
The U15 Midwest 49ers capped off a great weekend at the Pyramid Recreation Centre In St Marys by capturing the tournament championship. The event featured top-tier teams from across the region, and the 49ers rose to the challenge with strong performances from start to finish.


Game 1: Midwest 49ers 2 – 0 Woolwich Wildcats
The 49ers opened the tournament with a shutout victory. After two scoreless periods, James Hawkins broke through with the game-winner on the power play, assisted by Carson Weldrick and Ethan McIntosh. Less than a minute later, Ryder McDonald added insurance, set up by Mason Potts and Cole Weltz. Goaltender Owen Fry was perfect in net as the defense stifled Woolwich.

Game 2: Midwest 49ers 2 – 1 St. Mary's Rock

In their second game of the day, the 49ers edged St. Mary's in a tightly contested matchup. Mason Potts struck first in the second period, assisted by Hayden Adams, before Cole Weltz netted the eventual game-winner in the third on a feed from Max McIntyre. St. Mary's pulled closer with a goal, but Kurtis Lantz stood tall to secure the 49ers’ second straight win.

Game 3: Stratford Warriors 2 – 1 Midwest 49ers
The morning matchup with Stratford was a hard-fought battle. Stratford opened the scoring before Ethan McIntosh, assisted by Potts, drew the 49ers even. The Warriors reclaimed the lead in the third when Stratford netted their second of the game, handing Midwest its only defeat of the weekend.

Game 4: Midwest 49ers 3 – 2 Woolwich Wildcats
The 49ers rebounded in the afternoon with a thrilling win. Hayden Adams, set up by McIntyre, opened the scoring, but Woolwich quickly answered with a goal. In the third, McIntyre stole the show, first putting the 49ers ahead with a goal assisted by Weltz and Connor Dunn, then sealing the win with an unassisted game-winner at 8:21 after Woolwich briefly tied the game on a powerplay goal.   Lantz earned his second win in net.

Championship Final: Midwest 49ers 3 – 0 Stratford Warriors
After a scoreless first period, Hayden Adams opened the scoring early in the second, assisted by Finn Heaney. Moments later, McIntyre extended the lead on the power play, with Ben Bester collecting the helper. In the third, Colton Kenny sealed the victory with an unassisted marker at 2:00. Fry was unbeatable in goal, recording his second shutout of the tournament to secure the title.

The 49ers closed the weekend with a 4–1 record, highlighted by two shutouts and key victories over Woolwich, St. Mary's, and Stratford.  From the opening puck drop to the championship final, the 49ers showcased resilience and teamwork, earning a well-deserved tournament championship.
